COLA REN, a pioneering Chinese female producer and DJ, breaks new ground with her first EP on our label, ‚Forest Drone‘. Her unique approach to music opens a new world of refined timbres, rhythms and melodies which feature characteristics of genres like Downtempo, Ambient, Breakbeat and Techno.

The EP begins with ‚Firefly,‘ where listeners find themselves enveloped by an aura as enchanting as a night lit by fireflies. The title track ‚Forest Drone‘ introduces warm, tribal rhythms intertwined with a captivating drone, while the sequenced synth pattern of ‚Lost in Bamboos‘ offers a rhythmic escape into a lush, imagined bamboo grove. The EP closes with ‚Dusk Piper,‘ a track that combines breakbeat rhythms with mysterious synth melodies to leave a lasting impression.

About Cola Ren:

COLA REN is a music producer and DJ based in Guangzhou, China.

Her sound is inspired by her observations of humanity, introspection, and experiences traveling the globe as a photographer. She excels in using sound to depict organic visuals and emotional colors, guiding listeners through rhythms originating from different roots of the world.

Her debut self-released EP ‚Hailu‘ is a fulsome ambient, Balearic, and downtempo brew with a gorgeous sense of melody and spirituality that offers a soothing escape. It has received early support from Lena Willikens, Vladimir Ivkovic, Salamanda, K-LONE, Al Wootton, Joe Delon, Mixmag Asia, and more. She has also made appearances on international radio stations such as NTS, HÖR, Kiosk Radio, and Rinse FM.

She is also the co-founder of the local community radio 八平 ‘8square Radio’ and her own label AMWAV, which aims to bring fresh local sounds to audiences around the globe.
